“The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.”
-Benjamin Disareli
Any man can tell you that it doesn’t matter how much you accomplished or how great you thought you were if no one remembers you when you’re gone, or, if they remember you for the wrong thing.
That being said I don’t think James should leave Cleveland. If he leaves the Cavs he’ll look like a sucker in my opinion.
Right now he’s like the little engine that could, he could do so many things but he still hasn’t gotten over that hill, he has to keep chugging till he makes it
I don’t peg him as a quitter but I found it interesting that KG who languished in Minnesota for 12 years (1995-2007) during which time he accrued an MVP (04) 8 All-Star selections, 3 All NBA 1st teams selections, All Star MVP, 5 All Defensive First team etc, etc. Said that James might not get “his” until he leaves Cleveland, I guess KG knows what he’s talking about.
Nuff of that….
Speaking of legacies, everyone or most everyone knows who Elvis , The Stones, Eric Clapton and Michael Jackson are. Hell everyone knows who Stevie Wonder is and even Dolly Parton. I’m wondering who from our generation will be remembered and listened to like that in 10-20 years???
The Backstreet boys sold 130 million albums worldwide but they ain’t around no more and their tracks aren’t played on radio either
The Spice Girls who BBC said is the best selling girl band of all time. Sold 75 million albums but where the hell are they now? No one listens to their music anymore
Same thing with N’Sync, JT doing his thing now but will be end up in same league as Steve or Marvin Gaye
What about some of the rappers will people be listening to Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Kanye, Ti, Lil Wayne or Soulja Boy years from now.
Biggie might get away with it seeing some of his legacy is already written with the East Coast West Coast beef and him getting shot.
Pac on the other hand has put out 6 albums since he died and there is one more album in the works
Whaddaya think?

It’s Valentine’s day again and so I decided I wanted to write something about not only the man St. Valentine but Love itself. So let the rambling being :)
No one is even really sure of who Valentine (Valentio, Valentinus) was, he might have been one priest/martyr/saint or he could be a conglomeration of a few martyrs or priests from Ancient Rome.
Believe it or not St. Valentine is the patron saint of bee keepers…amongst other things. He wasn’t even included in the original list of saints/martyrs from that time period, some Pope decided he was gonna be a saint in 450 something A.D.
I’ve NEVER celebrated Valentine’s day, I don’t think there should be a “special” day for “love.”
Below is excerpts from something I wrote in 2007
The "L" word…and I’m not talking about that drama series on cable that portrays the lives, loves and learnings of a group of lesbians and bisexuals and their friends, family and lovers in Los Angeles.
I’m talking about l-o-v-e. What is it? How is it shown? Is it necessary? Is it real and do we need it? Is it overrated? You decide!!!
There’s a novel written in 1952 by Han Suyin which was made into a movie in 1955 called Love is a Many Splendored Thing starring William Holden (Stalag 17, Sunset Boulevard & Bridge over the River Kwai) and Jennifer Jones, about cross cultured relationship that was opposed by friends and family. The theme song of that movie recorded by The Four Aces goes a little something like this…
Love is nature’s way of giving
A reason to be living,
The golden crown that makes a man a king.
So what is it and why does it make people do outrageous things? My brother moved down to Davao to try to "make it work" with his girlfriend who has 4 kids from a previous marriage, my brother having one kid from a previous relationship that got all fucked up. He’s getting and instant family!!!
I have another friend who put up with her ex-husbands philandering ways because of a vow she made one time. She said she loved him and he "has a good heart", but she caught him with his girlfriend one time when she went up to Baguio and he acted like it was alright or it was his right! And it wasn’t the first time. Did she really love him or was she just keeping the vows she made because that’s the "right" thing to do?
I have some good friends who are in long term relationships or are even married who "get some on the side"!
So what is real love? I know of one example for sure, Jesus giving his life for mankind even if he had the choice to not do it.
In the 1859 historical novel, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, Sidney Carton is a cynical English barrister gives his life in the place of his friend who looks a like to preserve the love that his friend has for a woman that he loves himself. Stating as he is at the guillotine that, "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."
Is the greatest show of love to give your life for someone else? Jesus said in John 15:13..Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends…then he admonishes us right after this verse to love one another like he loved us and he gave his life for us.
So is everything else in between bullshit or fake, or is it really lust masquerading as love???
In 1998 the group Rappers against Racism or R.A.R. bannered by German chart rapper Down Low, LaMazz and Scream Factory covered Foreigner’s "I Want to Know What Love Is"
Yeah, to all you people out there
I wanna know one thing
What’s love?
Who are we?
Are we all brothers and sisters?
Our blood is the same color
So we should get our all get down
Check it out
Could it be that I stand alone on my own
Having nothing to fear far away from home
Now my time is short, let me exercise your mind
Fly with me to the sky with ***
I hear a quiet past generation, I travel different nations
Come closer to the man that you’re facin
This is my plea, my sayin, my words,
Vanish racism and thoughts of your nerve
Display the *** and stand up for what you believe
We shall all overcome and achieve
Think about the brothers and sisters who died & remember
Know what love is, and make a difference
Love is too many things to try to describe it one word or one sentence for that matter, so I’m not even going to try anymore ;)
Love ain’t trying to be
Something you’re not my friend
Love ain’t trying to be someone
You think you gotta pretend

Kai Zen (repost)
Kai Zen/Peace by Inches/Rocky Balboa
August 29th, 2007 by djchesco
There’s this poster on the wall at work that has two Japanese characters called "Kai Zen" it means "continuous progress".
Actually it means continuous INCREMENTAL progress, not improving by “leaps and bounds” but by small steps, inch by inch.
The point being that we all have to continually progress but we can’t expect miracles overnight. Baby Steps, we gotta learn to crawl before we can walk, then we need to master walking before running.
You have to keep trying and progressing bettering yourself because if you don't there's no standing still. You won't stagnate, you'll regress
Too many people expect that after five minutes of doing something they should be experts at it and know all there is to know. If you have an attitude like that you’ll never learn more or improve yourself & your station in life.
Which brings to mind the speech that Coach Tony D’Amato (Al Pacino) gave during halftime in the final game in Any Given Sunday
Peace with Inches
I don’t know what to say, really. Three minutes till the biggest battle of our professional lives all comes down to today. Now either we heal as a team or we’re gonna crumble, inch by inch, play by play, ’til we’re finished.
We’re in hell right now, gentlemen, believe me. And, we can stay here — get the shit kicked out of us — or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell one inch at a time.
Now, I can’t do it for you. I’m too old. I look around. I see these young faces, and I think — I mean — I made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I, uh, I pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased off anyone who’s ever loved me. And lately, I can’t even stand the face I see in the mirror.
You know, when you get old in life things get taken from you. I mean that’s…part of life. But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out life’s this game of inches. So is football. Because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small — I mean one-half a step too late, or too early, and you don’t quite make it. One-half second too slow, too fast, you don’t quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They’re in every break of the game, every minute, every second.
On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch, because we know when we add up all those inches that’s gonna make the fuckin’ difference between winning and losing! Between livin’ and dyin’!
I’ll tell you this: In any fight, it’s the guy who’s willing to die who’s gonna win that inch. And I know if I’m gonna have any life anymore, it’s because I’m still willin’ to fight and die for that inch. Because that’s what livin’ is! The six inches in front of your face!!
Now I can’t make you do it. You got to look at the guy next to you. Look into his eyes! Now I think you’re gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you. You’re gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team because he knows, when it comes down to it, you’re gonna do the same for him!
That’s a team, gentleman!
And, either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals.
That’s football guys.
That’s all it is.
Now, what are you gonna do?
That’s the key, taking one step at a time, never giving up, never stopping, never feeling sorry for yourself.
I met a friend of my friend the other day who has a pretty fucked up story of her baby daddy and all the shit he did to her back in the day. My friend told me some of the things that she had gone through and when I met her I was impressed. For all the shit that she went through she is alive and kicking and embracing life and doing what she wants to do now and loving life.
Too many fuckers that I know and see are more than willing to give up the moment they encounter any adversity, they don’t have the fortitude or inner strength to push on and get what they want or need.
I watched Rocky Balboa the other day and I actually enjoyed that movie. I watched Rocky I when I was 8 years old on a train in Malaysia, and to tell you the truth I never really was fan of Rocky. The story was lame in my opinion, you pretty much knew that Rocky would pull something out his ass and end up winning, so it got old real quick.
There was this scene in movie where Rocky was talking to his son, played by Milo Ventimiglia of Heroes fame for those who don’t remember who he was he plays Peter Petrelli, after he was complaining about how hard life was and especially for him who had to live in his fathers shadow etc. to which Rocky replied:
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and KEEP moving forward. How much you can take, and KEEP moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and NOT pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!"
And that’s good advice for all of us, no one is going to do shit for you or do you any favors, you want something go and get it. Outkast said:
Nigga, you need to git up, git out and git somethin’
Don’t let the days of your life pass by
You need to git up, git out and git somethin’
Don’t spend all your time tryin’ to get high
You need git up, git out and git somethin’
How will you make it if you never even try
You need to git up, git out and git somethin’
Cuz you and I got to do for you and I
Nuff said, I’m starting to babble, I think you get my drift

immersion
there's an old adage that says "you are what you eat", the same is true for your demeanor and the atmosphere in which you live your life. so many things happen to each of us on a daily basis that if we get caught up in the negativity of the "bad" things we'll never survive
there's nothing we can do about the situations that befall us we don't have control over those things. what we do have control over is how we react to them. a lot of people and most of the people i know like to dwell on those negative things, they like to tell everyone about how bad of the day they're having, about this shitty thing that happened to them, how pissed they are about blah blah blah blah
i say fuck it. why dwell on it or even think about it if it bothers you. answer that!!
you don't like, it fucked you up, you're pissed yet you won't let it go.
my new years resolution is no longer suffer these kind of things. new year is the best time to make changes in your life. leave behind old lives, loves and even friends
one of my female best friends was telling about her break up with her partner/husband of 10 years and all the shit that came out at the end of their relationship and how she was crying on the 31st. I told her it was better that all that came out today (31st) than tomorrow so she can start the new year off fresh.
the apostle paul or saint paul said and i paraphrase: "i don't think im the shit, but what do is i forget all that shit that's in the past and i look forward reaching for my goals"
i read this blog from Christian Pilgrim I guess it's a christian blog here on blogspot and i want to repost some excerpts
The world will tell you that the dominating influence in your life is your past. If you came from a difficult home life, that will determine the direction of your life. If your culture was treated unfairly, that will dictate the condition of your life today. If you were hurt or abused or if your youth was spent in rebellion, the remainder of your life will be spent struggling with your past. The world is preoccupied with the past because it faces an uncertain future.
most people tend to focus on the problem instead of the solution, if you dwell too much on the past you can never embrace the present and you most definitely cannot prepare for the future which is the most important
Like birds, let us,
leave behind what we don’t need to carry…
GRUDGES SADNESS PAIN FEAR and REGRETS.
Life is beautiful, Enjoy it.

THE HUMAN STAIN
I'm reposting some of my old blogs from different social network sites
Here's one from the third quarter of 2007 after having coffee with some friends:
DISCLAIMER: The following are my own observations of human nature. Any references, obvious or imagined, appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. If you think I’m talking about you, I probably am, if you’re reading this you’re part of the human race therefore I’m talking about you because I’m making a sweeping blanket statement here…
Heads up…
People think they’re so fucking intelligent and so fucking sure of themselves, people are some of the basest creatures on God’s green earth.
Animals do shit out of instinct, sure they’re intelligent to a degree but for the most part they are just acting on instinct but man, humans, those motherfuckers are downright devious, wicked bastards.
And for all the "intelligence" that human beings have, they are also some of the most stupid creatures on the planet.
WIZARDS FIRST RULE
I read a series of books called the Sword of Truth when the main protagonist is a "normal" guy who finds out that he has a powerful wizard as a grandfather and whose family lineage is from powerful talented wizards.
On his way to becoming a powerful War wizard his grandfather teaches him the "Wizards Rules" which are the tenants or pillars governing them.
Here are some of the important ones…
Wizards first rule:
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it’s true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so all are easier to fool
Wizard’s Third Rule
Passion rules reason, for better or for worse; Letting your emotions control your reason may/will cause trouble for yourself and those around you.
Wizard’s Fifth Rule
Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie; People will lie to deceive you from what they truly mean to do. Watching the actions they take will prove their true intentions
And in my opinion the most important of them all is…
Wizard’s Tenth Rule
Willfully turning aside from the truth is treason to one’s self; People who for whatever reason don’t want to see the truth can be acutely hostile to it and shrill in their denunciation of it. They frequently turn their venomous antagonism on whoever dares to point out that truth … To those seeking the truth, its a matter of simple, rational, self interest to always keep reality in view. Truth is rooted in reality, after all, not the imagination.
Some prime examples of why people are as stupid as they are even though they think they’re smart are:
Don’t touch or don’t sit: You’ll sit and touch anyway just to see what will happen
Pull or Push: You’ll do the exact opposite (I’m guilty, mainly because I’m tuning in to what else it is that I’m doing)
Wet Paint: You’ll actually have to touch it to see if its true
Someone says something that could be totally ambiguous or could have so many other explanations and you immediately think they’re talking shit about you. And true to your baser instincts you have to respond....why? Responding only shows that you’re guilty of what’s being said even if it’s not being said about you.
Water off a duck’s back people, you gotta be strong
"None of these things move me.." - Acts 20:24
"The wicked fleeth when no man persueth; but the righteous are as bold as a lion." -Proverbs 28:1
Remember: It’s the hit dog that howls

"The wicked fleeth when no man persueth; but the righteous are as bold as a lion." -Proverbs 28:1

burdens into blessings
You love someone you open yourself up to suffering, that’s the sad truth. Maybe they’ll break your heart maybe you’ll break their heart and never be able to look at yourself the same way. Those are the risks. That’s the burden. Like wings they have weight, we feel the weight on our backs, but they are the burden that lifts us. Burdens that allow us to fly
